When I got a new fork I simply slightly tapped it so it came out the bottom of the steer tube. I am non sure if thats the proper way but it worked for me. Just don't hit it likewise hard.

merely be careful, some forks get a little narrower in the crown and you wouldnt be able to press it out the lesser

Thread a bolt into information technology and hammer the bolt to one side and then to the other. This damages information technology and so you tin can more easily tap in out thru the lesser.

Well the starnut is used to tension your headset, then if you lot already tensioned information technology with a starnut in place and accept the stem bolts tightened, then you dont really need information technology. As long as your headset is tight and your stem bolts are tight you lot should exist good. In that location is likewise a potential of taking a Dime sized chunk out of your trunk or face if you wipeout and accept a stem affect anywhere, the little top cap stops the steerer tube from becoming a giant hole-punch.

There is a tool for the job. Information technology's basically a bolt with a handle. Y'all thread the bolt into the kickoff nut, then you slam information technology up a couple times to become it out.

Stack some spacers and then that the top cap is college than the meridian of the steerer tube and just tighten the bolt. That'south how I do mine. If you're going to hammer it out the lesser make sure it will fit out the bottom of the steerer. I know that the with the new Marz forks its a real hurting.

Odd, I merely did this today...

I used a seatpost and an adjustable wrench because I was too lazy to take hold of a hammer.

So I only bent the tabs down so it grips when I install information technology in a new fork.
